New project from Norske Skog Saugbrugs
RollResearch will modernize the second Waldrich Siegen
grinding machine of Saugbrugs paper mill. Startup of the
renewed grinder will be on September 2010.

Metso Paper, Järvenpää, Waldrich Siegen
WST2000/25
Metso Paper Järvenpää has used their upgraded
grinding machine now for over 5 months.
The scope of delivery consisted of new Siemens Sinumerik
840 Di CNC and Simatic S7 PLC systems, a new full automatic
4-point measuring device, all new Siemens 1PH7 spindle and
1FT6 axis servo motors, Simodrive 611U drives, new electrical
cabinets and cabling.
One special characteristic of this project was extension
of the carriage guideways and the workpiece bed.

The first grinding machine reference in Malaysia
The Voith WP7/10 grinder was successfully modernized in
Malaysian Newsprint Industries, Malaysia in the beginning
of 2008. Since take-over, the new CNC has shown its capability
to grind various paper machine rolls.

New full automatic roll measuring device - WRMD4-3D
CPC (Model 2008)
The first device of the new 4-point measuring device will
be delivered to Metso Paper, Järvenpää Roll
Factory. The new compact and design enables upgrading of
measuring device in small workshops. But bigger benefit
comes from accuracy. Due to stiff mechanics the repeatability
and accuracy of absolute diameter measurement is better
than ever.

3D optimization of backing rolls at StoraEnso Fine Paper
The newest Hybrid DynaTest™
reference will be installed on Waldrich WS III CPT 3D Grinding
Machine on February.
The backing rolls of coating station are rotated in grinding
machine at full production speed. The DynaTest laser measuring
equipment is used for measuring rolls geometry. The measuring
data is transferred to 3D Grinder and used in 3D compensation.

New projects in France and Thailand
RollResearch has a project going on at UPM-Kymmene Stracel
paper mill, Strasbourg, France. The delivery includes new
electrical cabinets, Sinumerik 840Di CNC with 3D-grinding
features, new servo motors and a four-point measuring device.
The second project has just started at Sahaviriya Steel
Industries (SSI) hot strip mill, Bangsaphan, Thailand. In
the scope is complete mechanical and electrical modernization
of INNSE 60" roll grinder.

INNSE grinder modernization, Rautaruukki Hot Strip Mill,
Raahe, Finland
RollResearch has modernized an INNSE 36" work roll
grinder in Rautaruukki Hot Strip Mill. The delivery consists
of new electrical cabinets, new Sinumerik 840Di CNC and
Simatic S7 PLC, new motors and cables. In the mechanical
scope was included a new hydrostatic guideway lubrication
system. The full automatic measuring device measures during
grinding.

Norske Skog Saugbrugs, Halden, Norway
Waldrich WSIII CPT 75x14.000 roll grinder was modernized
as a 3D Grinder. The measuring device is equal as in StoraEnso
Fine Paper/Fortek Oy (Oulu, Finland). In addition to
4-point measuring device upgrade, the scope includes Sinumerik
840Di CNC system, Simatic S7 PLC, new Simodrive 611 drives
and Siemens 1FT6 servo motors. The existing DC spindle motors
and drives were connected to the new digital CNC.

Relocation and modernization of 2 Waldrich grinders
to Metso Service Point Borlänge, Sweden - The first
ultramodern 3D-grinder has been in production for 3 months.
The first one of the two Waldrich Siegen grinders, please
look at difference before and after modernization !


The carriage has a complete new design. The old tilting
U-axis mechanics (the cast iron part incl. grinding wheel
spindle) was left inside the new upper carriage. This design
includes an integrated belt grinder.

2 Hybrid TurnControl 3D supercalender lathe modernizations
at M-real Kirkniemi paper mill, Finland.
Two old supercalender cotton roll lathes (Poreba TR100
and Niles DLZ1000) were upgraded with 3D turning and 4-point
measuring systems.
The high speed turning unit Hybrid PMU-12 compensates machine
tool's bed error and roll's roundness error. The roundness
error in soft sc-rolls can be over 150µm !
After modernization, the supercalenders operate more smoothly
and the rolls last longer.

Herkules roll grinder was modernized to 3D Grinder at
M-real Kirkniemi paper mill, Finland.
The old CNC and PLC systems were replaced with Siemens
Sinumerik 840D and Simatic S7 based 3D Grinding system.
The original two-point roll measuring system was upgraded
with a new Hybrid HRMD4-3D four-point measuring device.
After the latest project, RollResearch has got two 3D Grinder
references at Kirkniemi mill.

RollResearch modernizes two Waldrich grinders to Metso
Service Point Borlänge, Sweden.
Metso Paper delivers the largest SC paper machine in the
world, PM12, to Stora Enso Kvarnsveden. PM12 starts on autumn
2005. Metso Paper has also got responsibility for carrying
out roll service of Kvarnsveden paper mill. Metso builds
a new Service Point near to mill.
RollResearch has got the biggest order in it's history,
from Metso Paper, Sweden. RollResearch's delivery consists
of complete mechanical and electrical modernization and
relocation of two old Waldrich Siegen grinding machines
to the new workshop. See

Both grinders will be equipped with the latest Hybrid GrindControl
3D Grinding Technology, including full automatic four-point
roll measuring devices.
Delivery includes also design of foundation, spring elements
and their installation, a coolant system , and a roll data
administration software.
The grinders are taken over in two phases: the first grinder
starts in the same time as the new PM12, and the second
grinder starts in the beginning of 2006.

Hybrid TurnControl 3D. A new 3D machining control system
for supercalender roll turning to SCA Ortviken, Sweden.
The new version of TurnControl, TurnControl 3D, compensates
roll's roundness errors coming from i. e. roll bearings
and conical sleeves. As the first in the world has RollResearch
made a functioning 3D machining solution for roll turning!

Hybrid DynaTest with balancing machine features - optimizing
rolls for production conditions
RollResearch has delivered a new generation balancing machine
to AK-Tehdas, Tampere, Finland. In addition to conventional
balancing machine properties the new roll rotation stand
is equipped with Hybrid DynaTest, roll dynamic measurement.
The new equipment is used in high precision roll production,
maintenance and in troubleshooting cases.

The Hybrid Dynatest™
- roll dynamics measuring device has been developed to analyze
dynamic behavior of rolls. Metso Paper uses Hybrid
Dynatest™ in their Jarvenpaa Roll Factory
(see mill experience).
Also AK-Tehdas (Vaahto Group), Tampere, Finland, uses a
Hybrid Dynatest™
device to improve the quality of the rolls they are
producing and recoating.

Iggesund Paperboard (Holmen Paper), Iggesund, Sweden, has
modernized their old Waldrich roll grinder with the Hybrid
GrindControl 3D™ control system and the full automatic
ARMD4-3D™ roll measuring device. The rebuild of all
electrical equipments was also carried out by Rollresearch.

full production use since May 2001. The new yellow multi-point

a Hybrid GrindControl 3D comes to Rautaruukki Steel (28 Dec
2000)
Rautaruukki Steel, Raahe, Finland, has ordered the newest
and largest version of Hybrid GrindControl 3D to
their old Herkules roll grinding machine. The modernization
of control and electrical equipments is carried out by Siemens
and Rollresearch co-operation. The startup of the modernized
machine is on early summer 2001.

The newest Hybrid GrindControl 3D was installed at Metsä-Serla's
Kirkniemi PM3 roll grinding shop. The modernization of control
and electrical equipments was performed by Siemens and Rollresearch
co-operation on summer 2000.

| The second Hybrid GrindControl 3D to Myllykoski
(6 Sep 2000)
Myllykoski Paper Oy has ordered their second Hybrid GrindControl
3D roll grinding machine. The old RollControl device in
PM7 Waldrich is being replaced with a new 3D grinding device.
The old roll measuring device is being updated to a new
Hybrid 3D four-point device.
