Hybrid GrindControl 3D - Grinding Methods
Position grinding is designed for soft and medium hard rolls
In position grinding the NC system feed the control data, coming from the 3D measuring system, to the grinding machine. At the first machining pass all errors are copied to the roll. This generated geometry is then measured and serve as 3D correction profile for the NC system. When machining a new roll the previous control curve, saved as a “base curve”, will be used to reach a 3D geometry with minimal variations much faster.
Power grinding is suitable for hard rolls
Power profile control is the right method for hard rolls. With this method the first pass is machined with constant power and at the same time all machining data is recorded. Next step is to record the roll geometry with the 3D measuring system. Then the NC system calculates a geometrical control curve which is equivalent to the power control data. If the amplitude in the existing control file is exceeded, the NC system scales this control file so that the maximum machining is within the permissible values.
